Impressive architecture meets revolutionary authenticity

Merano in South Tyrol is considered to be one of the most beautiful spa towns in Europe and offers a new and innovative architectural gem in its old historic town. Terme Merano is nestled in a Mediterranean park landscape, with views over the breathtaking alpine world of South Tyrol. The contemporary architecture is contrasted by a mountain panorama that has existed for thousands of years. Merano’s tradition of spas and thermal baths is reflected upon and re-defined in this unique environment.

Responsible for the interior design of the imposing steel-and-glass cube is star architect Matteo Thun, who was born in the neighbouring town of Bolzano. The cube manages to dissolve the boundaries between the inside and outside. It presents an approach unheard of in Europe, which enables the guests to feel incredibly close to nature. Nowhere else can an oasis like this be found in the heart of a city.

Part of this unique wellness refuge is the 50,000 m² thermal park – the green heart of Merano. Here you can enjoy a cornucopia of different pools, surrounded by beautiful landscape, trees, palms, roses, and water lilies. The glass cube also contains an impressive number of facilities: All in all 15 pools which are accessible year round, ten additional summer pools, and an elegant 1,300 m² sauna area with eight different saunas and steam baths. A snow room, a south-tyrolean style organic hay sauna, cold and warm water pools, relaxation rooms, and a caldarium with brine inhalation as well as the Spa & Vital Center, top off the vast range of wellness options.

At the Spa & Vital Center, body and soul are treated with natural resources from South Tyrol that have been used for hundreds of years: Apples, grapes, herbs, whey, and mountain pine are all part of the therapy and wellness treatments, among them the Merano apple bath, the grape oil bath in a tub, and the South Tyrolean sand bath.

Terme Merano knows how to impress its guests with unusual treatments: The edelweiss treatment – entailing a brine bath with edelweiss essence, a purifying edelweiss body wrap, and a relaxing massage with south tyrolean edelweiss oil -enables you to enjoy the virtues of this precious plant. Not to be overlooked is the marble treatment. “What is healthy about marble?” you might ask yourself. The “white gold” from nearby Vinschgau, the so-called Laas marble, is crushed to a powder and is then used in the form of a crème as a natural peel for tender skin.

Whether you are planning to spend your holiday there or you just want to pop by for the day – a visit of any length makes a lasting, seductive impression on your senses. Treat yourself and your soul to a moment of deep relaxation – also offered as a two-person package. In 26 beauty and treatment rooms or in a private spa suite you can experience this revolutionary authenticity in this location full of contrasts that complement each other perfectly.
