That’s London Baby!

London Fashion Week, the ultimate fashion festival (so say the organisers…!) is taking place from September 15 – 19, 2017.

It is organised by the British Fashion Council, who present this most glamorous industry event of the season to promote British fashion talent. London Fashion Week does not only stand for Chanel, Prada, or Gucci but also features younger and by no means less exciting labels like Erdem, Mary Katrantzou, Roland Mouret, Ports 1961, or MM6 Maison Margiela. Twice a year, the “Big Four” catwalk shows in Paris, Milan, London, and New York highlight what is to be expected in fashion during the next season. London’s great advantage: It has a range of embroidered dream dresses to avant-garde power looks, so there is something for everyone.

Fashion shows are the most expensive 20 minutes of a fashion label’s year: The dresses are overpriced and usually cannot be worn by anyone beyond size UK8. It is therefore legitimate to ask what the purpose of fashion shows actually is. This topic is regularly an item of heated discussion but notably mostly among those who are not particularly interested in fashion. Critics outside the industry struggle to understand the value of events like the London Fashion Week. For the fashion crowd, however, these shows are significant. They do not only give us insights into what we will be wearing in the upcoming season but understand themselves as a reflection on modern society. Thus the fashion week increasingly becomes an important part of culture just as its counterparts of music, fine art, and film. British labels like Biba and Mary Quant have worked hard to establish fashion culturally in the 1960’s and are regarded as pioneers. It also has to be considered that the fashion industry plays a role in the British economy: The London Fashion Week alone creates a turnover of £269m per season.

One question remains to be answered, however: How can you obtain a ticket for the London Fashion Week 2017? In case you have not already been invited by one of your favourite labels to sit in the front row next to Cara Delevingne and Kate Moss: Fashion lovers who want to check out the new collections can purchase tickets online through Ticketmaster or the official LFW website. Ticket pricing varies depending on the show, location, and seat between £20 and £200.
